Default New players duo advice

Hi, a friend and I are just about to start playing Guild Wars, and would like some advice on which professions to choose for pve duo play. The trouble is we both want to play damage dealer type builds, though I am gravitating towards a warrior or elementalist and my friend is wanting to play either a ranger, necromancer or mesmer. Neither of us really wants to be a healer.

Could anyone suggest a play style that works from these professions and what would be the best secondary professions. We really require complimentary type builds as we will be playing together the majority of the time.

Thanks

I'd suggest w/mo for one, with n/mo for the other.

By the by, the healer class in this game, monks, can do some fairly significant damage through Smiting. What I would consider to be a great combo would be a w/mo and a mo/w.

ah thanks for that will happily blunder by way through knowing that it doesn't punish you for making mistakes. Now Elementalist or Warrior for pure carnage?

NightOwl I know what you are saying makes sense, but I play a priest in WoW and am a little bored with that type of play. I just want to concentrate on making creatures not be for a while Though if a warrior is quite gimped without healing I may reconsider? Anyway I will try out all the secondary professions.

For both, I would suggest having Monk to be either your primary or secondary, either have a team of (Mo/x and x/Mo) or (x/Mo and x/Mo). If you can heal yourself and each other, then there's less need to take henchies (leaving more drops for both of you). Also, you'll both be able to get a resurrection/rebirth skill and res. each other whenever one bites the dirt.

Go Warrior! If your friend wants to play a Ranger, Necro or Mesmer, then go Warrior to hold back the angry mob.

[Added:]

Going with what NightOwl said... You should see what a Monk can do to undeads.

Both should go ranger ftw, one r/mo for a little heal and rebirth and r/e for high damage. No need for warriors your pets can tank the early missions. When you get to dessert both pick up Me secondary for PvP. Rangers rule with henches and two rangers are an awesome combo.

To try out them all is simply saying not ready, although the ranger secondary really doesn't give you feel fo rangers, beast mastery is only a small part.

Try what you like, you can always restart Me and my bf made it through the game both as Rangers, him a R/Mo, me a R/Me. Play around in pre-sear, doing quests together, trying the different secondaries out, and if you decide you don't like your primary, it won't take a lot of time to delete and restart your character

Rangers are very versatile, they can be a damage bow ranger, beastmaster, trapper, interrupter, energy drain, etc. Even a melee ranger does nearly as much damage as a warrior and can use builds that aren't so heavily adrenaline based because of the extra energy and expertise. Because they are versatile they are quite fun to play in different situations and tinker with. Most equipment for them is also relatively cheap, the only real exception being perfect bow mods since you can't get from collectors.

When my buddy and I first started playing we started with me being the Wa/Ne (Sword Damage+Vile Touch) did very well... and he went with Ne/E, but after playing the game more I am more in tune to say Wa/Mo and a Ne/Me are a great combo for dual Pve. Rangers (distance attacks and Monks supporting role) I was really not into. Only recently I have seen that this game needs more Monks.

My opinion is Wa/Mo and Ne/Me, those two.

Just go with your feelings. You can have fun in many ways in this game. Remember you have three other character slots to try different combinations. Play what you enjoy most and prosperity will follow.

I agree I have 3 ascended chars a W/Mo, Mo/Me & a R/Mo. I have played acouple of combinations N/R, Me/E, R/E, E/Mo. All combinations bring something different to the group and the game. But you have to feel comfortable playing the char you pick. I love my ranger, I was originally worried I wouldnt figure out interrupt but found out real quick it is easy. Trapping is awesome, 1 ranger can do more dmg in 5 seconds than a group of warriors can done right. Bow attack, sure warrior go down there I will stay up here on this ledge and I will rez you after I finish them off. lol
Then again I love my warrior nothing like gettng nose to nose with the foe. Sure another member of the group can interrupt the foes skills or put some kind of drain on them but in the end all armies need their foot soldiers to get the job complete (warrior being the foot soldier). As for my monk I love to sit back and heal or even better is spamming my group as a protect monk. Its a blast to see a warrior getting clobbered but take minimal dmg as you stack protect skills on him.
So find what works for you and enjoy. There is no such thing as a worthless or useless profession in this game. Anyone that tells you different is crazy. If you come across a group that says that to you LEAVE immediately. They are nothing but trouble and you will end up facedown dead waiting for the countdown to complete so you can start all over again
